What is an orthopedics medical assistant?

Orthopedics Medical Assistants are healthcare professionals who support orthopedic doctors and surgeons in clinics, hospitals, and other medical facilities. They perform both administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records, and clinical duties like preparing patients for exams, assisting during procedures, and performing basic diagnostic tests. Their specialized knowledge in musculoskeletal health helps ensure patients receive efficient and effective care tailored to orthopedic needs.

What does an orthopedics medical assistant do?

Orthopedics Medical Assistants support orthopedic physicians by preparing exam rooms, assisting with patient intake, and helping with minor procedures such as casting or splinting. They frequently take patient histories, update medical records, and provide patients with instructions regarding post-visit care. Additionally, they coordinate imaging appointments, manage medical supplies, and collaborate closely with nurses, x-ray technicians, and office staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care.

Excellent organizational skills, clear communication, and a compassionate bedside manner help you stand out in this patient-facing role.
