What is an organizer in training (OIT) at SEIU?

An Organizer In Training (OIT) at SEIU is an entry-level position designed to teach individuals the skills needed to become a union organizer. OITs work closely with experienced organizers to learn about labor movement strategies, worker outreach, campaign planning, and building relationships with union members. The program typically involves hands-on experience with organizing drives, attending meetings, and participating in workplace actions. The goal is to develop the knowledge and abilities required to advocate for workers’ rights and eventually advance to a full organizer role within SEIU.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an organizer in training (OIT) at SEIU?

To thrive as an Organizer In Training (SEIU), you need strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills, often supported by experience in community organizing or activism. Familiarity with digital organizing tools, databases like VAN, and a valid driver's license are commonly required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and the ability to motivate and empower others distinguish top performers in this role.
