Job description


POSITION SUMMARY
The Sustaining Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the Vertiv Americas Services organization by ensuring accurate and efficient parts management within the Oracle ERP system. Core responsibilities include proper configuration of item attributes, extension of parts to Service plants, and support of Change Orders (COs) issued by various Change Analysts. Additionally, this role serves as the Services Manufacturing Engineer (ME) representative on cross-functional COs, supports New Product Development (NPD) Service Readiness initiatives, and performs Change Originator/Analyst duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support non-standard unit setup by ensuring products are trackable, serialized, and able to transact within the install base at the same level as standard items.
  • Create and manage COs for component attribute extensions to support non-standard unit configurations.
  • Extend parts to Service plants with a high standard of accuracy and quality, leveraging a thorough understanding of the capabilities of each plant within the Services Organization.
  • Serve as the Services ME representative on cross-functional COs assigned by Change Analysts, ensuring all Service organization requirements are identified, communicated, and met.
  • Review and approve Engineering Changes (ECs) in Oracle PD Cloud, maintaining compliance with established quality and documentation standards.
  • Initiate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to proactively drive product and process improvements across the organization.
  • Support the Service CO process for kit and part number creation associated with Field Change Notices (FCNs), ensuring seamless Service readiness.
  • Create and review product documentation using CAD, Solid Edge, Agile EC, and Oracle PLM systems to ensure accuracy, compliance, and accessibility.
  • Support NPD for service readiness and participate in cross-functional projects as required.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve internal standard operating procedures (SOPs) to drive consistency and operational excellence.
  • Partner with Production and Field associates to provide technical direction, guidance, and subject matter expertise as needed.
  • Maintain consistent daily collaboration with Technical Support and internal/external Field Support teams to drive alignment and issue resolution.
  • Engage proactively with cross-functional teams to diagnose and resolve product concerns and engineering challenges.
  • Interface with outside vendors and suppliers to obtain quotes, technical specifications, and other required information in support of service operations.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or a directly related discipline.
  • Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology with 4+ years experience considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, document, and communicate effectively; must be collaborative and team-oriented.
  • Skilled in personal computer use and various applications programs, i.e., spreadsheets, CAD, Microsoft Office Suite, Solid Edge, CREO, communications, etc.
  • Experience with Oracle PLM preferred; working knowledge of ERP system navigation is a plus.

POSITIONS ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Office work environment and some exposure to manufacturing and lab environment which would require the use of personal protection equipment.
  • Minimal domestic travel (less than 15%).
