Job description

Position Overview:

The Senior Middleware Engineer – Oracle WebLogic Cloud and On-Prem provides senior-level engineering, administration, operational support, and modernization services for Oracle WebLogic middleware platforms operating across both cloud-hosted and on-premises Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8) environments. This role is responsible for maintaining platform stability, scalability, security, observability, and operational performance for mission-critical federal applications and shared services.

The engineer supports hybrid middleware environments spanning traditional on-premises infrastructure and cloud-hosted enterprise platforms, providing administration, maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, upgrades, and operational support for Oracle WebLogic and associated middleware technologies.

The position also supports integration activities involving enterprise monitoring platforms, authentication services, CI/CD pipelines, and enterprise messaging infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineer, configure, administer, maintain, and optimize Oracle WebLogic middleware environments operating across both cloud-hosted and on-premises infrastructure environments.
  • Deploy, configure, and support enterprise Java applications within clustered Oracle WebLogic environments.
  • Administer, maintain, patch, upgrade, and troubleshoot Oracle WebLogic platforms hosted on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8) servers in both on-premises and Amazon EC2-hosted environments.
  • Perform middleware lifecycle maintenance activities including WebLogic patching, version upgrades, JDK upgrades, JDK certificate updates, JVM tuning, configuration management, security remediation, and operational support for enterprise production systems.
  • Provide operations and maintenance support for Oracle WebLogic middleware platforms installed within cloud-hosted enterprise environments, including deployments, performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and middleware administration above the operating system layer.
  • Support hybrid middleware operations across legacy on-premises enterprise infrastructure and cloud-hosted enterprise platforms.
  • Support administration, configuration, patching, and operational maintenance activities for Apache Tomcat and Microsoft IIS middleware environments.
  • Troubleshoot middleware incidents involving application deployments, authentication failures, JVM memory utilization, thread contention, connectivity, SSL/TLS certificate issues, and platform performance degradation.
  • Support operational integrations involving Apache Kafka and enterprise messaging services.
  • Configure and maintain operational monitoring, alerting, and centralized logging solutions supporting middleware platform health and operational performance.
  • Support SSL/TLS certificate management, JDK keystore and truststore maintenance, authentication integrations, identity management services, and middleware security hardening activities.
  • Develop automation scripts and operational tooling to streamline middleware administration and recurring maintenance activities.
  • Support CI/CD deployment pipelines and automated deployment workflows for enterprise middleware environments.
  • Coordinate with application development teams, cloud engineers, cybersecurity personnel, networking teams, and infrastructure administrators to support enterprise platform operations.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, standard operating procedures, operational runbooks, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Support production operations, incident response, root cause analysis, continuity of operations activities, and operational support rotations for critical enterprise systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of enterprise middleware engineering and administration experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Oracle WebLogic Server administration experience supporting enterprise production environments.
  • Experience administering and maintaining Oracle WebLogic middleware platforms across both on-premises and cloud-hosted Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8) environments.
  • Experience supporting Oracle WebLogic middleware platforms operating within Amazon EC2-hosted enterprise environments.
  • Experience administering and supporting Apache Tomcat and Microsoft IIS middleware environments.
  • Experience performing Oracle WebLogic installations, upgrades, patching, JDK upgrades, JDK certificate updates, security remediation, and operational maintenance activities in enterprise production environments.
  • Strong experience with Linux administration, shell scripting, and middleware automation.
  • Experience supporting Kubernetes and containerized enterprise environments.
  • Experience supporting enterprise monitoring, observability, and centralized logging platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Linux system administration concepts related to middleware hosting, application support, service management, log analysis, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of Java application hosting, JVM performance tuning, thread analysis, keystore and truststore management, and enterprise application troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting SSL/TLS, authentication services, identity management integrations, and middleware security hardening activities.
  • Experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and DevSecOps operational practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and incident response skills.
  • Experience working within Agile or SAFe delivery environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Federal government contracting experience.
  • Familiarity with Apache Kafka environments and enterprise messaging architectures.
  • Experience supporting high availability, disaster recovery, and enterprise resiliency initiatives.
  • Oracle Middleware certification preferred.
