The Programmer Analyst II is responsible for supporting and enhancing enterprise business systems. This position documents business and technical requirements, defines project scope and objectives, and determines implementation strategies to achieve institutional goals. The role gathers and prioritizes customer requirements and works closely with functional business areas to ensure service and satisfaction goals are met.
The Programmer Analyst II participates as a team member or leads application development projects across all phases of application design and development, including enhancements, defect resolution, and custom reporting. This role provides technical support for the University's Ellucian Banner ERP suite and related third-party applications, ensuring reliable integrations, data integrity, and effective system functionality.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field plus 4 years of relevant experience such as working with ERP systems, data integrations, and enterprise application support.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, primarily with Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server (or other relational database platforms).
  • Knowledge of best practices when dealing with relational databases.
  • Highly skilled in optimizing large and complex SQL statements for performance and reliability.
  • Experience with system integrations and APIs supporting ERP platforms and third-party applications in an enterprise environment.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve common database and data-related issues.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage work efficiently across multiple priorities.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage several projects with constant concern on details, quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.

  • Experience using development and support tools such as Git, ServiceNow, and ETL tools.
  • Basic knowledge of Java for supporting or troubleshooting integrations and custom applications.
Essential Functions and percent of time:

Provide support and development for enterprise-wide, business-critical IT applications, including the University's Ellucian Banner ERP system, as well as related third-party systems.
  • Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including discovery, analysis, requirements definition, solution design, configuration, development, testing, deployment, and operational support.
  • Analyze business and technical requirements using strong problem-solving skills and apply process improvement methodologies. Determine appropriate technical solutions to resolve issues and recommend system enhancements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain complex PL/SQL queries, scripts, triggers, and APIs. Create packages, extensions, and custom reports to support institutional needs.
  • Work as a member of a collaborative technical team supporting multiple technology platforms and assisting internal business offices in achieving their business objectives
  • Provide technical guidance and support to client and systems areas through consulting, training, and technical documentation related to Banner and integrated applications.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple systems and competing priorities under tight deadlines in a hybrid ERP environment.

  • Ability to identify relationships between business challenges and data gaps across systems, and proactively recognize opportunities to improve reporting and application processes. Recommend technical solutions that address existing disparities and add measurable value to the institution.
  • Document business processes and consult with functional clients to define requirements and system functionality that meet operational and strategic objectives.

  • Collaborate closely with technical and functional team members to perform impact analysis on proposed solutions, evaluating effects on Banner system, integrations, and downstream business processes.ย

  • Stay current with Ellucian Banner and supported vendor applications, including new releases, patches, and emerging functionality. Perform testing, validation, and implementation of releases and patches as directed, ensuring compatibility and stability across Banner environment.

  • Provide training, knowledge transfer, and ongoing technical support to team members and functional clients to ensure effective use of Banner and integrated applications.

  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required to support system upgrades, maintenance activities, and critical business processes
