Job description

Overview
The OR Scrub Tech, under the supervision of Director and/or Clinical Manager/Coordinator, is responsible for preparing supplies and equipment for interventions, using appropriate techniques. Provides technical services as assigned and directed. The OR Scrub Tech assists and/or performs patient procedures that are within the scope of their unit specific Skills Summation. This position works in an in-patient / hospital based environment.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
* Prioritizes and addresses technical needs to meet patient conditions.
* Assists the health care team during surgical procedures by integrating an understanding for anatomy and physiology with the surgical procedure.
* Prioritizes and addresses technical needs to meet patient conditions.
* Provides safe patient care for the intra-operative phase, including specimen handling and medication labeling and handling.
Equipment Management
* Prepares appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment for specific procedures and be able to anticipate the sequence of events and needs of the surgeon and patient.
* Maintains, monitors, and restocks equipment and supplies as assigned or as necessary.
* Opens surgical equipment for each case appropriately and anticipates the physician's needs during each procedure.
Department Partnership
* Accurately processes and communicates provider preferences to RN.
* Facilitates efficient room turnovers as a scrub technician as evidenced by appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment and assisting the team as needed.
* Assists with updating the physician preference cards as appropriate.
* Participates in training and education of new employees and other staff in regard to aseptic techniques and processes.
Compliance/Safety
* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all Hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Practices in a safe and cost effective manner.
* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.
* If required for position, ensures all certifications and/or licenses are up-to-date and valid prior to expiration dates.
* Completes all company mandatory modules and required job specific training in the specified time frame.
* Maintains timely and accurate documentation of assessments, interventions, EMR entries, and patient responses.
* Responsible for reporting any safety related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safety related training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

BLS - Required upon hire
OR SCRUB TECH CERTIFIED-
BLS - Required upon hire
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), or Tech in Surgery Certified (TS-C), or NCCT - Required
Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
