The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

JOB OVERVIEW: 

  • The Orderly is responsible for assisting the Perioperative team with maintaining maximum work.
  • Responsible for ensuring the proper picking of supplies and instruments, delivery and return of case carts utilized in Perioperative Services,
  • Additionally, he/she ensures the proper delivery of specialized equipment utilized by Perioperative Services,
  • Upholds policies and procedures in order to maintain a high level of service and professionalism to ensure Continuous Quality Improvement.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • The ability to support and push patients of various body conditions (weights ranging from 100 lbs. to 300+ lbs.)
  • Able to work with the paging system
  • Knowledge of inventory control,
  • BLS Certification is required or completion within 90 days of hire to the unit.
  • Successful completion of all Orientation requirements of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center,
  • Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease, hazardous materials and physical injury from lifting patients and the movement and operation of department equipment.
  • Must meet requirements of the ADA,

Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience as a transporter  
  • One (1) year of experience as a Customer Service representative  
  • Experience in patient transport, medical experience and patient contact
  • Certified nurse's training program,

Scheduling Requirements

  • Shift: Day (7a.m. -3:00p.m.)
  • Status: Per Diem
  • Hours: Varies (based on the needs of the department)

Essential Functions:

  • Assists nursing staff in obtaining stock supplies and equipment for each designated area/room,
  • Maintains/adjusts par levels of supplies, linen, blankets, and solutions as demand increases or decreases.
  • Assists the nursing staff in the transportation of patients from bed to stretcher and from stretcher to bed, assists in lifting and positioning of patients,
  • Prepares/assists the patient for discharge,
  • Assures documentation of surgical specimens in Logbook and transports specimens to the Pathology/Cytopathology Department in a timely way.
  • Communicates/ reports pertinent information, patient complaints, problems and any untoward signs, symptoms or unusual occurrences immediately to the appropriate patient care provider,
  • Complies with Infection Control Guidelines i,e, handwashing, dress code
  • Demonstrates the ability to transport patients to and from all nursing units within the hospital environment,
  • Follows hospital policy and procedures in identification of patients, universal protocol
  • Maintains a safe and uncluttered environment which conforms to established OSHA rules and regulations,
  • Manages time efficiently, reports to the designated area on time and responds to the page in a timely manner, within 2 minutes,
  • Retrieves stretchers from nursing units in the Medical Center, returns them where needed and reports repairs needed,
  • Transports blood and blood products to and from the blood bank as necessary,
  • Transports equipment to and from the Bio-medical engineering department,
  • Transports soiled case carts to the decontamination room in CSR in a timely manner and maintain frequent rounds every hour to check dirty case carts for transport,
  • Transports medications to and from the pharmacy,
  • Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service,
  • Confidentiality — Adheres to patient rights, provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records,
  • Professionalism — Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors,
