Pharmacy Technician

To assist the Pharmacist in processing prescriptions and supporting the daily operations of the Long Term Care pharmacy.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain accurate patient profiles in TWRx, including medication profiles, insurance information, contact details, allergy information, and other pertinent data.

  • Assist pharmacists in processing medication orders: including claim adjudication, batching cycle medications, printing labels, pulling products, scanning NDCs, and receiving pharmacist authorization when alerts occur.

  • Communicate with insurance carriers to resolve rejected claims, underpayments, and other billing issues as necessary.

  • Communicate with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill and prior authorizations, complete documentation, and follow up as needed.

  • Work directly with long term care facilities to address needs and exceed expectations.

  • Maintain timely and accurate communication with the central fill site through the Long Term Care Tracker system.

  • Assist the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescriptions, including LTC packaging systems (OPUS, 30-day punch cards, NexPak).

  • Check in cycle filled medication exchanges from facilities, ensuring accuracy between batch and medication systems.

  • Assist in processing returned medications and crediting batches accordingly.

  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels using TWRxs Just In Time Inventory (JITI) system, adjusting quantities and ensuring proper recording of product movement.

  • Order medications, supplies, and pharmacy materials (vials, baggies, cable ties, labels, printer ink, paper) as necessary.

  • Utilize the intranet long-list to report over-stock and coordinate inter-store transfers.

  • Receive and check in daily medication orders, stock shelves, rotate stock to prevent outdates, and maintain shelf labeling.

  • Properly retain and return outdated medications for credit, and flag near-outdated products.

  • Identify and prepare stock balance returns using X-10 item movement in TWRx.

  • Ensure RX hardcopy files are routinely checked, filed, and signed as needed.

  • Maintain and replenish E-kits, billing for replacement products, and preparing for pharmacist final check.

  • Maintain clean, organized work areas to ensure accurate filling of prescriptions.

  • Follow company policies on personal appearance, security, and loss prevention.

  • Perform housekeeping duties as needed to maintain a professional image of the pharmacy.

  • Adapt to changing job responsibilities and perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).

  • Valid state pharmacy technician registration (where required)

  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) preferred.

  • 12 years of pharmacy experience, preferably in long term care.

  • Experience with pharmacy medication order input and processing.

  • Understanding of third-party pharmacy benefit plan parameters, insurance processes, and payment systems.

  • Knowledge of medication brand and generic names, medical supplies, terminology, calculations, and basic pharmacy practices.

  • Strong organizational, prioritization, and math skills.

  • Completion of HIPAA privacy and Methguard training.

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

  • Ability to work effectively with prescribers, facilities, coworkers, and clients.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with active listening ability.

  • Proficiency in pharmacy software systems, word-processing, and data entry.

  • Ability to handle stressful situations, adapt to change, and maintain a positive team-oriented approach.

  • Dependable attendance and punctuality to ensure timely patient care.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Willingness to cross-train and proactively share knowledge with other team members.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
