Position Summary
The Medical Scribe is a valuable member of the eye care team, primarily responsible for assisting ophthalmologists and optometrists in documenting patient encounters and ensuring accurate medical records. Their role involves real-time transcription and administrative support during clinical visits. Scribes may assist with patient care as directed by the physician. These duties may include those of an Ophthalmic Assistant and/ or Technician.
Work Locations: Henderson(Horizon Ridge) & Las Vegas(Alta Rose)
Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8AM to 5PM
Roles and Responsibilities

  • Document patients accurately and efficiently in electronic health records (EHR) or other designated systems, capturing medical history, chief complaints, examination findings, and treatment plans.
  • Strong typing and data entry skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient records by reviewing documentation for inconsistencies, missing information, and proper coding.
  • Prepare examination rooms, ensuring they are properly equipped with necessary instruments, supplies, and patient education materials.
  • Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability) guidelines, to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Collaborate closely with ophthalmologists/optometrists to transcribe and enter information via verbal or written communication into patient records, ensuring clarity, coherence, and adherence to established protocols.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of medical coding and billing processes.
  • May perform other duties as necessary
Experience Requirements
  • Completion of a medical scribe training program or previous experience as a medical scribe is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with medical practice management and electronic medical record software
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • IJCAHPO's Ophthalmic Scribe Certification preferred but not required
Physical Demands
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to stay focused
