An optometric scribe is a healthcare professional who assists optometrists during patient examinations by documenting the encounter and performing various clinical tasks. The scribe plays a crucial role in supporting the optometrist and ensuring efficient patient care.

Employment Type: Full Time (open to Part Time)Responsibilities
  • Accurately document patient examinations and procedures in real-time as the optometrist performs them.
  • Assist in preparing examination rooms with necessary equipment and materials.
  • Help with patient flow and coordinate special testing needs with technicians.
  • Communicate doctor's instructions to patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as faxing, making phone calls, and writing referral letters.
Required Skills
  • High school diploma or GED; medical assistant designation or medical scribe certification helpful but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willing to learn medical terminology and electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to type accurately in dimly-lit settings.
  • Willing to learn eye anatomy, diseases, and ocular medications.
  • Detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced medical environment.
