Professionals in this role typically work in industries like oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, and environmental monitoring to ensure regulatory compliance and safety. They analyze infrared imagery to identify leaks, assess their severity, and recommend corrective actions. OGI specialists often undergo training and certification to operate thermal imaging equipment effectively. This role is critical in reducing emissions, improving efficiency, and maintaining workplace safety.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Optical Gas Imaging position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Optical Gas Imaging, you need a solid understanding of infrared imaging technology, gas detection methods, and environmental or industrial safety regulations, often backed by certifications such as OGI Level 1 or thermography qualifications. Familiarity with specialized cameras (like FLIR), data analysis software, and compliance protocols is essential for accurate leak detection and reporting. Attention to detail, strong observational skills, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for this role. These competencies are critical because they ensure accurate identification of gas leaks, regulatory compliance, and clear reporting to stakeholders.
