Scope
The Emissions/VRU/Flare Technician supports Permian Basin field operations by monitoring, measuring, documenting, and mitigating air emissions across oil and gas production facilities. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and company environmental requirements while supporting safe and efficient hydrocarbon production.
This is a field-based role requiring daily travel on lease roads to tank batteries, compressor stations, and processing facilities.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine emissions monitoring at tank batteries and compression facilities.
  • Perform LDAR repairs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Address leaks identified during LDAR inspections using approved optical gas imaging cameras and gas-detection instruments.
  • Inspect and monitor thief hatches, pressure-relief valves, pneumatic controllers, vapor recovery units, flares, and combustors.
  • Quantify emissions using portable analyzers and approved methodologies.
  • Document inspection findings accurately in company data-management systems.
  • Initiate work orders for equipment requiring repair and verify that corrective actions have been completed.
  • Support regulatory reporting and maintain required environmental records.
  • Assist operations teams in identifying opportunities to reduce emissions.
  • Maintain the calibration, condition, and functionality of emissions-monitoring equipment.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and provide support during weekends, holidays, or extended operating hours as required.
Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with applicable EPA Subpart OOOOa, OOOOb, and OOOOc requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready inspection and emissions documentation.
  • Participate in internal and external environmental audits.
  • Follow all company safety, environmental, driving, and field-operating procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous oil and gas field experience.
  • Experience with emissions monitoring, LDAR, VRUs, flares, combustors, or production equipment.
  • Familiarity with EPA Subpart OOOO regulations and TCEQ requirements.
  • Experience performing minor LDAR-related repairs.
  • Experience using optical gas imaging cameras, portable gas-detection equipment, or emissions analyzers.
  • Experience calibrating and maintaining gas-detection equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and a practical understanding of oil and gas production equipment.
  • Ability to accurately document inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a company vehicle on lease roads.
  • Ability to work independently in field environments and respond reliably during the on-call rotation.
Physical Requirements
  • Walk frequently across uneven terrain.
  • Climb ladders and tank stairs.
  • Work outdoors in hot, cold, windy, and changing weather conditions.
  • Lift and carry monitoring equipment weighing up to 40-50 pounds.
  • Drive daily between field locations on lease roads.
