Job description

Sr. Optical Specialist

JOB SUMMARY AND OBJECTIVE

The Senior Optical Specialist is responsible for the timely, efficient, and accurate processing of products in the lab. A Senior Optical Specialist is a cross-trained and multifunctional position with the ability to perform in all areas of their specialty as listed below under the Essential Functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (as applicable per lab/department)
  • Ability to complete every task/essential function within the department; Ability to complete special projects as assigned
  • Develop and review SOPs regularly for accuracy and improvement in conjunction with management
  • Analyze and assess optical lens and eyeglass frames breakage by discovering root cause issues and developing measures in conjunction with supervision to address issues
  • Ability to follow the ANSI standard for eyeglasses, troubleshoot and determine root causes, identify trends and make necessary adjustments
  • Perform machine calibrations and machine tool changes, including specialty parts, as required within their department throughout the day
  • Review optical lens inspection rejects and make final pass/fail determination
  • Perform coating changes by draining old coating from tank, cleaning the tank and tank with new coating chemical
  • Control lens inventory (count, order, receive and return to manufacturer of optical lenses and eyeglass frames); Maintain operational supplies
  • Provide technical training on all areas of the department to other employees
  • Responsible for the production expectations communicated by management throughout the day
  • Perform and comply with all job functions according to documented standard operating procedures
  • Meet or exceed established performance thresholds in all core and secondary job functions
  • Report all known product, process, and or reporting defects and inefficiencies to supervisory personnel
  • Partner with Team Leads and management to evaluate employees utilizing a skills assessment checklist
  • Participate in team, department, and company-wide meetings as scheduled. Actively participate in team discussions and provide feedback to maintain and improve the work environment
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Full-time employees typically work forty (40) hours a week and are scheduled eight (8) hours per day over five (5) days; Part-time employees typically work a reduced schedule that is less than thirty (30) hours per week. Overtime is routinely expected.

TRAVEL
Travel for this position would be minimal if at all.

Compensation Range
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $18.75 - 24.28. This represents the good-faith estimate of the compensation range at the time of posting.
Actual Pay will be based on job-related factors, which may include:

  • Applicable minimum wage laws
This position may also be eligible for a bonus and/or commission plan, subject to the terms of the applicable plan.
