Job description

Job Summary:

The Coating Technician 1 is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the coating equipment within the Coating Department. This role involves executing production-grade coating processes and adhering to quality work instructions. The technician will focus on maintaining productivity in the department, overseeing general maintenance, and managing supplies inventory. Collaboration with the Coating Manager and Assemblies Department is essential to ensure timely delivery of high-quality coated parts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Champion of excellence in optical coating production.
  • Maintains established process parameters to ensure that quality parts are being produced. 
  • Assists Coating Manager is maintaining production supplies inventory. 
  • Ensures timely delivery of quality coated items.
  • Completes preventative maintenance procedures and cleaning processes, making sure these activities occur on schedule or as needed.
  • Capable of performing general maintenance in coating; full chamber cleanings, cryo-pump regeneration, emitter rebuilding and general shop upkeep.
  • Trains and guides other staff members on proper operation of coating equipment, execution of coating procedures and document control.
  • Identifies quality issues and reports to Coating Manager and/or Quality department, as needed.
  • Identifies potential safety issues and reports to management.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Raises individual performance to a level that results in proactive responses to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as required, depending on candidate skill set and on an as-needed basis to support evolving business needs.

The employee must also occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists

Education, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in optical coating equipment operation.
  • Basic analytical skills, including basic statistical analysis.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
