Job description

SUMMARY
Operates a Backhoe/Hydraulic Excavator (3/4 yard and over), Crane, End Loader (3 yards and over), Motor Patrol (Finish), Pile Driver, and/or a Dragline in the process of clearing and grubbing; soil excavation and grading, pipelines and roadway construction, mining, quarrying, plant operation, concrete construction, and construction of miscellaneous buildings or other structures. Has strong working knowledge of capabilities and limitations of assigned equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Fastens attachments to machine with clevis, wedge pin hitches, bolts, etc.
Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff shaft to machine to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver machine and raise, lower, and/or tilt attachments, buckets, or other machine parts.
Drives equipment in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
Maneuvers machine and bucket, or attachments, to load trucks, hoppers, or bins.
Monitors gauges and control panel indicators to avoid engine overheating, loss of oil pressure, etc.
Listens for uncharacteristic sounds that could indicate machine stress or failure.
Uses ladders, step holes, hand grips, and steps to mount and dismount equipment.
Greases, oils, and performs other maintenance or minor repairs on machine.
Follows manufacturer's procedures for operation, maintenance, and safety.
Keeps floor boards, stepping areas and hand holds free of trash, grease, rags or other obstructions that hinder operation.
Assists as required in general labor work, i.e. shoveling, raking, etc.
Adheres to all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc. including but not limited to the Safety Manual, the Employee Handbook, and the Fleet Safety Manual.
Answers directly to Foremen, Superintendents, Corporate Officers, or others given authority by the company.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 2 years experience in the respective phase of construction or other company operation. A minimum 1 year experience operating and a thorough knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and safety features of the respective equipment.
