As a Field Utilities Technician, you'll be an essential part of our customer service water metering team, with responsibilities that include: Installing, repairing, replacing, and removing water meters, meter boxes, and meter lids. Reading meters, recording water meter readings, and documenting meter conditions while using a tablet or handheld device.

Conducting field inspections, verifying meter accuracy, and assisting with meter testing programs. This is the first level in a four-level Maintenance and Operations - Utilities classification series responsible for serving as a trainee in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant or serving as a trainee in maintaining the water production and distribution systems and the wastewater collection system or serving as a Field Utilities Technician (meter services) trainee in the operation of utility billing meter infrastructure. Incumbents will work with certified operators under close supervision. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks will vary over time depending on the City's needs. POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES Performs installations, repairs, replacements, and or removal of water meters, meter boxes, and meter lids as required. Receive and process requests for field investigation and meter issues.

Turn water services ON and/or OFF in accordance with service orders and record necessary information. Installs construction hydrant water meter and witness backflow assemblies. Provides field customer service related to new service, high bill complaints, flow checks, and or other related issues.

Investigate and evaluate customer complaints related to water usage, water leaks, and no water service. Read meters and record water meter readings and meter conditions on a tablet. Locates and reads buried or flooded meters.

Cleans meter boxes. Follows standard operating procedures for operation, repair, and maintenance activities. Enters data and maintains logs and records.

Performs related work as assigned. KNOWLEDGE Standard practices, methods, and materials of assigned work. Occupational hazards and applicable safety principles and practices.

Uses and properties of supplies and equipment. Safe driving practices and geography of the city. Maintaining logs and records.

Basic math to calculate measurements, as assigned. Operation of small hand and power tools. Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations, as assigned.

SKILLS Following directions and meeting standards. Learning through observation. Operating assigned tools and equipment.

Inspecting facilities and grounds to identify repair issues. Comprehending reference books and manuals as assigned. Calculating measurements and performing addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.

Maintaining logs and records. Communicating effectively to exchange and receive information and instructions. Learning to use a computer and specialized software.

Interpreting and applying applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards as assigned. Providing customer service. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and up to 1 year of related experience; or an equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.

Certifications/Licenses: Arizona Class D Driver's License. Safety Sensitive Assignment(s): Field Utilities Technician. CONTINUING EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Maintain all certifications/licenses required at job entry unless replaced by higher licensure/certification.
