Job Summary:
The neck-down operator will set up and operate machinery that forms the neck or shoulder of the can determined by customer specifications. In addition to operating machinery, the neck-down operator will champion the packaging process of the aluminum cans for customers.
Job Duties:
  • Read blueprints and can drawings to determine job specifications and tooling.
  • Set up and operate all neck-down equipment.
  • Perform routine cleaning and preventative maintenance on neck-down related equipment.
  • Observe machine operations to detect machine faults and make adjustments necessary for the line.
  • Communication with fellow operators to update on production.
  • Perform routine quality checks and record findings to ensure cans are meeting job specifications.
  • Proficiently perform changeovers and production of aluminum containers to the specifications set by the customer.
  • Stack finished items for further processing or shipment.
  • Authority to stop and/or modify work processes due to non-conformance and/or unsafe working conditions.
  • Report all potential food safety concerns to the quality assurance manager.
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
  • Basic computer skills.
  • The ability to see details at close range.
  • The ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness.
  • Blueprint reading.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Possess excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Measuring skills using calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Quality control skills.
  • Must be a team player and possess a "can do" attitude.
  • Ability stand for long periods of time on concrete floor.
