Job Title: Temporary Bus Driver Trainee (Non-CDL Holder) 2025-26 SY
Organization Name: Transportation & Central Garage
Department Description:
Temporary Bus Driver Trainees will learn to operate a school bus safely in transporting pupils and authorized personnel to and from schools. Trainees receive instruction on how to follow an assigned route and schedule in the safe operation of a school bus. General supervision and training are received from the Driver Trainer.
Brief Posting Description





  • The Temporary Bus Driver Trainee will participate in PGCPS directed Commercial Drivers License (CDL) training for up to 6 weeks. Upon successful completion of training, having obtained a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Passenger and school bus endorsement.
  • Temporary employees are not eligible for leave pay for holidays not worked, or other fringe benefits.
  • Temporary Bus Driver Training Hourly Rate: $20.00

Detailed Description

  • Operates a school bus over an assigned route in transporting children to and from schools and on other authorized school trips;
  • Maintains order among students aboard the school bus and reports cases of misbehavior to the school and staff officials through proper procedures;
  • Inspects bus and checks gas, oil, water, and all lights, brakes, and safety equipment before driving;
  • Prepares reports of accidents and incidents that occur on the bus;
  • Attends safety meetings and other meetings as necessary;
  • Prepares manifest reports as requested;
  • May transport students on field trips and outings;
  • Keeps the bus clean both inside and outside;
  • Keeps an up-to-date route sheet on the bus at all times;
  • Keep required handbooks on the bus at all times, and perform related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Individuals transporting pupils must have at least three (3) years of driving experience and have attained the minimum age of twenty-one (21) years.
  • Must have the ability to meet special training and qualifications as set forth by Prince George's County Public Schools. Must have a driving record that reflects no more than 3 points in the last 10 years.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B with passenger (P) endorsement or Class B Learner's Permit with passenger (P) and school bus (S) endorsements.

Direct Deposit is expected as a condition of new hire employment.
