Business Strategy Consultant

Location: Reston | Work Setting: IN-PERSON

Overview

We are seeking an experienced, results-driven Business Strategy Consultant to provide strategic guidance across the full lifecycle of commercial ventures, from concept development and implementation through operational maturity, restructuring, or closeout.

The Business Strategy Consultant will develop business strategies and plans, evaluate market opportunities, support operational and financial decision-making, and advise senior leadership on key business initiatives. This role works closely with cross-functional experts, including legal, accounting, and banking professionals, to support approvals, funding, and execution.

The ideal candidate brings strong private-sector business experience, sound judgment, and a proactive, execution-oriented mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and execute commercial strategies aligned with business objectives

  • Identify growth opportunities, market trends, and revenue-driving initiatives

  • Pursue strategic partnerships, alliances, and new business opportunities

  • Conduct market and competitive analysis to support strategic decision-making

Operations & Business Management

  • Oversee operational functions, including business structure, operations, and supply chain activities

  • Leverage business relationships and contracts to build a cohesive team and strategic partnerships

Sales, Marketing, & Customer Engagement

  • Support sales performance through process development and performance metrics

  • Enhance engagement through marketing and customer satisfaction initiatives

Risk, Continuity, & Leadership Advisory

  • Assess business risks and support contingency and continuity planning

  • Brief senior leadership on strategic recommendations and business performance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required

  • 5-10 years of relevant private-sector experience with increasing levels of responsibility

  • Demonstrated success leading or contributing to business growth, operations, strategy, or commercial initiatives

  • Ability to work independently with limited oversight while exercising strong professional judgment

  • Proven leadership, initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving skills

  • Practical business experience and demonstrated accomplishments are valued more heavily than formal academic credentials.

Candidates should demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Business strategy or consulting
  • Business development or sales

  • Banking or finance

  • Business operations

  • Due diligence

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred, but not required

  • Leadership or supervisory experience
