Job Description
The Teen Zone Program Coordinator will be the on-site director for both the Teen Zone area and all Teen Zone programs and activities. Responsibilities include supervising the day-to-day operations of the Teen Zone area and programs offered through the Teen Zone. This includes guiding other staff, problem-solving, organizing supplies, planning and leading activities, ensuring safety/risk management policies are being followed, completing behavior/disciplinary paperwork for participants, keeping records when first aid or medication is administered, interacting with parents/guardians, interacting with facility staff, and transporting participants on field trips using city-provided vehicles.
Teen Zones are programs targeted explicitly for teens aged 12-17. Teen Zones are comprised of two components.
1- The Teen Zone area, which has video games, lounge chairs, areas for reading and listening to music, and socializing, specifically designed and designated for teen participants.
Teen Zone Programs are offered to teens who are members of the Teen Zone and include recreational games/activities, classes, special interest clubs, and field trips.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Supervise program staff and logistics at program site.
• Supervision of Teen Zone participants during activities and classes.
• Coordinate, plan, and lead program activities.
• Transport participants to various locations and events using city-provided vehicles.
• Pick up program supplies and deliver them to the site.
• Maintenance and cleanliness of the Teen Zone area and all equipment and supplies in the Teen Zone.
• Serve as a liaison between facility staff and program staff.
• Provide a constant flow of communication with supervisor, program staff, facility staff, parents/guardians, and participants.
• Enforce policies and rules amongst staff and participants.
• Always serve as a positive role model.
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Typical Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in recreation programs for youth or teens.
  • Experience planning recreational/athletic activities, enrichment programming, and games for teenagers
  • Experience leading and supervising staff (preferred)
  • 21 years of age or older
  • High School Graduate
  • Prefer applicants working for a degree in Parks and Recreation, Education, or a related field
  • City Driver's permit or ability to obtain (Clean NCDL)
  • Must be able to lift at least 50lbs
  • Must pass City of Raleigh criminal background check and controlled substance test
  • Available Monday-Friday 3:00 pm-6:00 pm during the school year

Working Conditions:
Work is performed both in the field and in an indoor office environment, with no adequate protection from weather, and temperatures below 32 degrees for more than an hour. The worker is subject to noise: There is enough noise for the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient level.
