Job description

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Program Coordinator to support our After-School Programming.

The Program Coordinator will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.

The Program Coordinator will join our team that provides academic help and leadership development, as well as high school and college preparation. The ideal candidate will provide effective leadership and support all programmatic components in organizational structure development, resource management, and curriculum development. The Program Coordinator is an integral part of the management team and reports to the Director and Assistant Director.

  • Ability to work with a high-performing, mission-driven staff
  • Energetic, motivated self-starter and a team player
What You’ll Do
  • Ensure that the overall program operation is smooth and efficient
  • Create and monitor the use of documents meant to track the academic and social progress of every child in the program

  • Create and maintain a working collaboration with the other coordinators at the program
  • Assist in the development of lesson plans, curriculum, and activities that are grade-appropriate for students when homework is not provided
  • Identify students who should be on academic alert and provide adequate services to assist them
  • Research events and opportunities designed to enhance the program experience of the students

  • Design and implement creative programming that speaks to the needs of the participants in the program
  • Track and achieve the goals set for the program
  • Provide leadership development, professional development, and staff training as needed
  • Facilitate and host staff, parent, and student meetings
  • Represent the program on all HCZ initiatives
  • Complete required monthly reports
