Job description

Statement of Primary Purpose
Responsible for coordination and development of the curriculum program and ensuring instructional excellence for all assigned courses in accordance with college policies and the mission of the North Carolina Community College System.
Classification
Curriculum faculty, full-time, exempt.
Reporting Relationships
Supervisor: Dean of Career Technologies Division
Direction given: Provides leadership to adjunct faculty in the program
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Teaching Performance
โ€ข Teach assigned course load consistent with College workload policy.
โ€ข Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
โ€ข Ensure that course content is up-to-date, relevant, accurate, and consistent with state and national accreditation standards. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students.
โ€ข Stay current in the subject matter through professional development, professional organizations, and professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.
โ€ข Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience.
โ€ข Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Facilitate the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
โ€ข Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives. Develop, update, and share course syllabi in a timely manner.
Evaluation of Student Learning
โ€ข Establish meaningful student learning outcomes for courses.
โ€ข Develop and implement methods that measure student progress toward student learning outcomes. Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently, and return student work.
โ€ข Maintain accurate records of student progress; submit grade records according to deadlines. Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.

Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
โ€ข Maintain familiarity with College goals, mission, and long-range plans.

Program Coordination
โ€ข Assist in student recruitment, advising, and retention. Assist in recruiting and training qualified instructors.
โ€ข Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as necessary. Assist in course offerings and schedules.
โ€ข Complete or assist with program reports, including but not limited to annual program review, outcomes assessment, and annual planning document.
โ€ข Maintain advisory committee to include recommending membership, hold annual meetings, and maintain records. Assist in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, and textbooks.
โ€ข Submit all College reports in a timely fashion.
โ€ข Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
โ€ข Assist in budget formation/control/expenditures for travel (local &/or overnight), supplies, equipment, and library holdings. Assist in inventory of equipment and supplies.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Licensing Requirements
Required: Diploma in Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration (HVACR) or related field from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution, minimum of three years of related work experience in the HVACR field is required. (Military experience may be counted toward the three years.)
Preferred: Associate degree in teaching discipline with documented competencies in the teaching discipline.
Knowledge
Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
At least three years related-working experience in the field is preferred. Community college teaching experience preferred.
Physical Demands
Must be able to lift 30 lbs.
Working Conditions and Environment
The instructor will need to be available some evening hours to supervise adjunct instructor. Some occasional overnight travel for professional development.
Equipment Operation
Common HVAC systems.
