Job description

The Operations Manager plans, develops, and establishes policies, practices and personnel related to all manufacturing activities of MSI.  Identifies the long and short-term needs of the manufacturing activities including capacity, production control, and process improvement. Responsible for coaching and influencing team performance to meet or exceed standards of quality, cost, efficiency and safety.  Uses performance management tools to grow and develop team members. 

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for production, material management, inventory control in accordance with company’s strategic initiatives.  Develops plans for efficient use of materials, machines and personnel.
  • Works with sales, engineering services, finance, and production managers on an ongoing basis to forecast future workloads, resources, staff levels needed for the department.
  • Creates annual production budget. Reviews production costs and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance a profitable operation. Develops and executes plans to reduce costs and enhance profitability.
  • Creates a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all equipment, and resources, maintaining compliance with federal and local standards, established policies and procedures. Ensures that the work environment is meeting safety and health standards and that equipment is well-maintained and is functioning in a reliable manner.
  • Responsible for manufacturing quality improvement initiatives to obtain the key performance indicators related to quality.
  • Assist with global Production operations, provides oversight for all products and processes within each business as needed.
  • Researches and remains aware of emerging trends, opportunities, and technologies that are, or may be, relevant to our business. 
  • Evaluates performance of production managers; identifies areas for development as well as future competency needs.  Mentors employees within department, assists them with setting and meeting goals, and identifying opportunities for development.
  • Establishes and maintains a work environment that provides for personal and professional growth and development. 
  • Other duties may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Industrial, Engineering or related field. In lieu of a degree equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.
  • At least 5 years related experience in Manufacturing Operations or Management.
  • Ability to work and interact with departments throughout the organization and across geographical offices, as well as with customers and vendors. 
  • Strong project management, organizational and time management skills required. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills needed.
  • Experience in change management, organizational strategy, innovation strategy, systems thinking, and design. 
  • Strong communicator (both writing and speaking) with internal and external stakeholders on technical and community issues.
  • Ability to mentor and develop direct reports and be willing to provide hands-on leadership. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

There is a minimal risk of injury.  Work hours are generally during normal business hours and are at least 40 hours a week.  May require some additional hours as business needs arise.  Travel may be required depending on the needs of the business. Consistent and regular attendance required.
