Summary:
The Senior Director of Operations provides strategic and operational leadership across all Mid Coast Hospital and LincolnHealth facilities and programs. This role is accountable for ensuring high-quality, efficient, and patient-centered operations in alignment with MaineHealth's mission, values, and performance expectations.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  1. Education: Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree highly preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: N/A
  3. Experience: Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in healthcare operations required.
  4. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Leadership in the management of hospital and health system operations. Demonstrates high standards of ethical conduct.
  5. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: N/A

Responsibilities:
  • Leadership:
    • Works in cooperation with the management team, medical staff, nursing leadership, quality department staff, and others to ensure compliance and maintain an environment committed to the standards of high quality, safety, and customer service excellence.
    • Participates in the functions and activities of respective leadership teams (local, regional and system) and operates effectively in a matrixed organization structure with shared accountability for performance.
    • Leads, manages, mentors, and evaluates direct reports, actively supporting their development and holding them accountable for the performance of their departments.
    • Reviews the management structure within areas of responsibility and establishes a culture of accountability and effective collaboration.
    • Operates in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment, leading change consistent with MH's mission and values.
  • Operational Performance:
    • Works in cooperation with other leaders in the development and presentation of annual capital and operating budgets.
    • Manages and monitors financial and operational performance to ensure compliance with established budgets and operating benchmarks.
    • Ensures operational efficiencies through benchmarking and quantitative monitoring of operational performance.
    • Drives and supports the development of new services and programs as needed to sustain a competitive position in the market.
    • Acts as a regional and/or local operations lead for certain services (e.g., Ancillary Services such as Imaging, Therapies, and Cardiopulmonary Services, and/or Patient Care Support Services such as Food and Nutrition and Environmental Services), working with peers and local leaders to drive performance.
    • Partners closely with other Coastal Sr. Directors of Operations to drive regional and local performance.
    • Partners closely with shared services such as Security and Emergency Management, Facilities, and Engineering,
  • Engagement:
    • Develops and retains a highly engaged workforce committed to MH's mission and values.
  • Regulatory and Compliance:
    • Coordinates with CMO, entity leadership, and Quality Department staff to ensure compliance with regulatory and healthcare standards (i.e., JCAHO).
    • Maintains relevant regulatory licenses and certifications.
    • Utilizes good safety practices at work and complies with all safety and infection control procedures and policies.
    • Uses relevant risk and safety reporting systems and processes to report adverse and unsafe occurrences.
