Operations Manager - Solid Waste

Location: Cumberland, BC

About the Role

GFL Environmental is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead our Solid Waste operations in the Cumberland region. This role will oversee multiple service lines and play a key role in operational performance, safety, customer service, and contract management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations for the Cumberland solid waste division

  • Oversee multiple service lines including commercial, small residential, strata/condo, apartment, and portable waste services.

  • Provide direct leadership to operations staff including drivers, supervisors, and support personnel.

  • Ensure all operations comply with safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.

  • Monitor operational performance including routing efficiency, service quality, and cost management.

  • Support contract management and operational readiness related to roll-off services and upcoming contract opportunities.

  • Collaborate with regional leadership and teams based in Victoria to align operational goals and strategy.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of operations leadership experience, ideally within the waste, transportation, logistics, or environmental services industry.

  • Demonstrated experience managing field operations and frontline teams.

  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Experience managing multi-line service operations is considered an asset.

  • Knowledge of waste industry operations, roll-off services, or portable sanitation services is preferred.
