Position Summary

K9 Patrol & Detection Officer - Victoria, BC

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our elite K9 team, providing Protection, Explosive, and Narcotics Detection services across a variety of high-profile sites.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

K9 Operations & Security Support:

  • Provide K9 protection support in accordance with established procedures, ensuring the safety and security of personnel, clients, and property.
  • Conduct explosive or narcotics detection as directed by the K9 Manager, including searches of provisions, vehicles, equipment, air cargo, and facilities.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update documentation to ensure thorough training, performance tracking, and compliance for assigned canines.
  • Maintain the health, safety, and well-being of assigned K9s in the field, kennels, and at home, including feeding, exercise, and proper care.
  • Respond promptly to calls, incidents, and requests from the Site Operations Manager.
  • Conduct routine inspections of K9 equipment, including leashes, crates, harnesses, and detection tools, ensuring readiness at all times.
  • Participate in emergency response situations and coordinate with police and other emergency services to ensure the K9 team is deployed safely and effectively.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members regarding K9 handling, safety, and operational procedures.
  • Document and maintain comprehensive reports, including occurrences, incidents, and patrol activities, as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience & Skills:

  • 2+ years of security experience OR strong customer service background.
  • Previous Police, Law Enforcement, or Security K9 experience is an asset.
  • Exceptional report writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations professionally.
  • Customer service and solutions-focused mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and follow direction effectively.

Licenses & Clearances:

  • Valid provincial security license (maintained throughout employment).
  • Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving abstract (submitted annually).
  • Ability to obtain or hold a Transportation Security Clearance.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Physical & Operational Requirements:

  • Physically fit: able to stand, sit, or patrol up to 12 hours per day, carry up to 50 lbs, and navigate stairs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Open availability, including flexible schedules as required.
  • Commitment to a 2-month paid K9 training program in Langley, BC (accommodations provided).
  • Suitable vehicle to transport K9s in an approved crate.

Canine Care & Commitment:

  • Maintain care for assigned K9 both on-site and off-hours.
  • Provide a safe, suitable home environment for the dog outside of work.
