Operations Manager Project Manager information

What is an operations manager project manager?

Operations Manager Project Managers are professionals who oversee both the operational aspects and project management functions within an organization. Their role combines ensuring daily business operations run smoothly with planning, executing, and closing specific projects. They coordinate teams, manage resources, set timelines and budgets, and work to achieve organizational goals efficiently. These managers act as a bridge between upper management and project teams, ensuring strategic objectives are met while maintaining operational excellence.

How does an operations manager project manager balance strategic oversight with hands-on project execution?

Operations Manager Project Managers are often required to juggle both high-level strategy and day-to-day project management. This dual responsibility means regularly aligning project objectives with organizational goals while also staying closely involved in timelines, budgets, and team coordination. Success in this role often depends on strong time management, clear communication, and the ability to delegate effectively. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as finance, HR, and technical departments—is common, ensuring that operations run smoothly while projects are delivered on time. Over time, professionals in this role can advance to senior leadership positions by demonstrating their ability to drive both operational excellence and successful project outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an operations manager project manager?

To thrive as an Operations Manager Project Manager, you need expertise in project management, process optimization, and operational strategy, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with project management software (such as Asana, Trello, or MS Project), ERP systems, and certifications like PMP or Six Sigma is highly valuable. Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills help you motivate teams and manage cross-functional initiatives. These abilities ensure projects are delivered efficiently, within scope, and aligned with organizational goals.

Can an operations manager be a project manager?

An operations manager can often transition into a project manager role since both positions require strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. However, project managers typically focus on specific projects with defined goals and timelines, often requiring certifications like PMP. Experience in project planning, scheduling, and risk management is also beneficial for such a transition.

Who makes more money, an operations manager or a project manager?

Typically, operations managers tend to earn higher salaries than project managers due to their broader responsibilities overseeing ongoing business functions. However, salaries vary based on industry, experience, location, and company size, with project managers often earning competitive wages especially when managing large or complex projects. Both roles may require certifications like PMP or Six Sigma, which can influence compensation.

Project Manager – Building Division

Our client is seeking a Project Manager to lead building projects from contract handoff through final completion. This role plays a critical part in ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and at the highest quality standards.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing hands-on field leadership with project coordination and scheduling. The role requires approximately 50% time in the field and 50% in the office, supporting crews, coordinating subcontractors, and keeping projects moving efficiently.

---

What You’ll Lead

Project Lifecycle Execution

· Manage projects from contract handoff through final completion

· Lead and assist foremen with day-to-day project execution

· Maintain project flow across multiple job sites

---

Labor & Margin Protection

· Identify inefficiencies and address them early

· Support project profitability goals

· Reduce rework and callbacks through strong oversight

Execution discipline directly impacts project success.

---

Quality & Project Completion

· Conduct quality reviews throughout the build process

· Ensure proper installation standards and structural integrity

· Manage punch lists and final project completion

· Deliver clean, well-executed projects that reflect strong craftsmanship

---

Communication & Team Alignment

· Provide regular project updates to leadership

· Communicate risks or challenges early
