Job description

Operations Manager
Overview
Anyone can point you to the vodka aisle. At Auburn Wine amp; Spirits, we'd rather tell you a story, introduce you to something unexpected, or help you find the perfect pour for the dinner party you're hosting next weekend. We run tasting clubs, publish member newsletters, and take real pride in our industry expertise.
Our Operations Manager leads the team who turns a routine shopping trip into something customers remember.
This is a full-time, salaried position reporting to the Chief Operations Officer.
What You'll Do
You'll have real ownership here — not just a list of tasks to check off. On any given day, that looks like:
  • Leading your team — coaching, managing schedules, recruiting great people, and running performance reviews that set people up for success
  • Interpreting the numbers — compiling weekly financials, managing cost controls, and keeping inventory, cash, and POS systems accurate and accountable
  • Creating enjoyable customer experiences — overseeing product orders and deliveries, ensuring shelves are stocked, and jumping in with customers whenever needed
  • Building the brand — leading social media efforts, coordinating promotional events, and representing Auburn Wine amp; Spirits at trade shows and events
  • Keeping it compliant — making sure your team follows all state, local, and federal laws governing the sale of alcohol
  • Spreading product knowledge — becoming a resource for wine and spirits expertise and supporting team certification efforts
This list reflects the core of the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary to achieve the organization’s objectives.
What You Will Bring
  • 3+ years of retail management experience
  • At least 2 years managing store inventory and conducting audits
  • Comfort reading and acting based upon retail financials and KPIs
  • POS system and cash handling experience
  • Strong people skills — you communicate clearly, listen well, coach naturally, and turn conflicts into opportunities
  • The math and business acumen to connect day-to-day decisions to the bigger picture
Preferred (but not required):
  • Experience in a wine and spirits retail environment
  • CSS or CSW certification — or a genuine interest in earning one

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are welcome.
Who Thrives Here
If you've ever gone out of your way to shop somewhere just because of how they made you feel — you already understand what we are building here. We're looking for someone who wants to be on the other side of that equation and create that feeling for others.
A Few Practical Things
  • Must be 21 or older
  • Available evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and handle the physical demands of a retail floor.
  • Per Kansas state law, candidates with felony convictions are not eligible for this position.
Most of your time will be spent in our climate-controlled store, with occasional outdoor events during promotions or trade shows.
