What does an operations manager intern do?

An Operations Manager Intern assists in overseeing the daily operations of a business or organization. Their responsibilities often include analyzing processes, supporting project management, helping with resource allocation, and collaborating with different departments to improve efficiency. Interns may also participate in meetings, prepare reports, and suggest process improvements under the supervision of senior operations staff. This role provides hands-on experience in operations management, preparing interns for future leadership positions.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an operations manager intern?

To thrive as an Operations Manager Intern, you need strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, typically supported by coursework in business, management, or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools (like Asana or Trello), Excel, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is highly beneficial. Effective communication, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset help interns excel in team settings and dynamic environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for streamlining operations, supporting decision-making, and contributing to overall business efficiency.

Job description

About Our Firm: Legacy Advisors, LLC is a premier Wealth Management firm headquartered in Plymouth Meeting, PA. We are a well-established and growing RIA with expertise in investment and financial planning for ultra-high-net-worth ($25M+) individuals and business owners. As an independent, fee-based firm, we are committed to helping our clients achieve peace of mind by serving them with the highest level of integrity, ensuring that their business and personal affairs are always in order. The common trait they share is too little time to take care of the strategic and tactical planning needed to secure their financial objectives.
Position Summary: The Wealth Management Intern supports daily work across the firm, not within a single team. Most of the day-to-day tasks originate from Investment Operations such as reporting and portfolio administration, but the role also works directly with other departments as needs arise, giving the intern broad exposure to how investment decisions, operations, wealth planning and client service connect across the firm. This role offers hands-on experience in financial markets, investment products, and client services, with opportunities to gain insight into all areas of the firm.
**We are seeking candidates who are available for a Fall 2026 Internship and beyond, ideally with the ability to commit to a one-year engagement, including part time hours while attending school and full-time work during the Summer of 2027. Only local candidates will be considered.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsibilities span several areas of the firm and will shift over time as projects and firm priorities change. Below are the general areas the intern can expect to support:
Investment Operations amp; Reporting
  • Assist with client performance reporting, trade and cash activity monitoring, and periodic reports (e.g., transactions, cash flow, portfolio drift) that may carry investment implications.
Investment Advisory Support
  • Support Portfolio Managers with market research, manager meeting notes, and day-to-day client portfolio administration.
Firm-Wide Projects amp; Special Assignments
  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives as they arise, which may include work with Wealth Planning, Client Service, Operations, or other teams depending on current priorities.
Specific tasks and projects will evolve throughout the internship based on the firm's needs. Interns should expect to work across multiple teams over the course of the engagement rather than a single, fixed set of duties.
Schedule amp; Commitment:
  • 10-15 hours per week while attending school, 30-35 hours per week during the Summer.
Background Requirements/Preferences:
  • Working towards a bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, or related field.
  • Familiarity with markets and investments โ€“ such as: Mutual Funds, Stocks amp; Bonds, and Alternative investments (Hedge Funds amp; Private Equity).
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with Bloomberg and performance reporting software is a plus.
  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to multitask.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to Legacy's Core Values ofโ€ฆ
    • Client First
    • Work Hard
    • Excellence
    • Positive Attitude
    • Respect
    • Always Do the Right Thing
