Position Overview

The Operations Manager (OM) is responsible for all aspects of the Service Operations Department at one or more assigned locations. As a senior manager, the OM collaborates with Sales, Business Office, and Purchasing teams to create an exceptional associate and customer experience aligned with CarMax culture.

Team Overview

Serves as a member of the senior management team; collaborates to set strategy for the store and provides vision, direction, and motivation to the team.

Role Responsibilities

Management of team and processes associated with vehicle production and servicing

Utilizes reports, analyzes information and monitors trends to identify opportunities in the business

Displays financial responsibility through P&L management

Identifies opportunities to reduce waste; identifies process improvements that are value added for customer and associate experience

Interviews, hires, trains, and promotes associates to support Service Operations and company growth

Champions and implements both company and store initiatives for consistent execution and procedures

Resolves customer and associate issues

Facilitates and participates in meetings and conference calls

Associate Development

Required Qualifications

Ability to read, interpret and transcribe data in order to maintain accurate records

Completion of CarMax-provided training in all areas of the Inventory, Cosmetic, and Production processes

Ability to multi-task in a high energy, fast-paced work environment

Effective communication skills across departments

Ability to make independent judgments regarding critical business decisions

Ability to identify business opportunities and suggest improvements

3+ years of experience as a Manager, retail management preferred

Intermediate computer skills

May require walking or standing for an extended period of time

Combination of both indoor and outdoor environment, including working at times in noisy and/or inclement weather conditions

Rotating schedule with shifts that will include nights, weekends, holidays and 12-hour days

Occasional travel for meetings, training, and special assignments

Flexibility to work at multiple locations or relocate

Wears CarMax clothing (acquired through the company) at all times while working in the store

The annual salary for this position is:

$115,200.00 - $201,700.00

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
