Job description

Description:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing analytical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished agricultural chemical products to ensure compliance with company and customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and quality standards. This role supports manufacturing operations by providing accurate and timely analytical results, assisting operations in troubleshooting and providing a recommendation on products that are out-of-specification, and maintaining a safe and organized laboratory workspace. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform routine physical and chemical analyses on raw materials, intermediates, and finished products according to approved test methods.
  • Conduct analytical testing using laboratory equipment such as pH meter, density meter, moisture analyzer, FTIR spectrometer, flashpoint apparatus, and inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICP).
  • Perform routine calibration, verification, and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and hazardous chemical handling procedures.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, inventory of chemicals and consumables, and proper disposal of laboratory waste.
  • Support production by providing timely quality data to minimize manufacturing delays.
  • Promptly report all problems regarding procedures, specifications, etc., to Manager or Chemist.
  • Perform assigned duties independently while collaborating with cross functional teams to get the support needed.
  • Assist with special projects (i.e. testing for new products, enhancements to existing products, etc).
  • Troubleshoot and recommend batch adjustments to Operations when products are found out-of-specification.
  • Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or a related field.

Experience 

  • 1-3 years of laboratory experience in quality control, chemical manufacturing, or related industry preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of physical and analytical chemistry techniques and laboratory equipment
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, or similar quality management system
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with laboratory equipment such as pH meter, density meter, moisture analyzer, FTIR spectrometer, flashpoint   apparatus, and inductively coupled plasma spectrometer (ICP)
  • Understanding of how to safely handle and dispose of   hazardous chemical
  • Ability to work under time pressure, tight deadlines, and interruptions
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to make an informed recommendation based on data collected and/or provided
  • Flexibility   to work overtime as needed to support Operations
