Job description

Position Summary...What you'll do...About the Role We’re looking for a highly organized, execution-driven Manager, Automation Engineering to lead the implementation and launch of a large-scale automated warehouse facility for Walmart. This is an on-site engineering role focused on ownership, execution, and technical project management within a highly automated warehouse and industrial environment. This individual will fully own the implementation of their assigned site, serving as the primary engineering lead responsible for driving execution, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring operational readiness through launch. While this is not a construction management role, the position partners heavily with construction teams, operations partners, Global Tech, automation vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the site lifecycle. Success in this role requires strong coordination, communication, organization, and follow-through across multiple teams working in parallel. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, thrives in fast-paced execution environments, and can quickly learn and understand building systems, automation technologies, operational workflows, and engineering designs. This person must be capable of keeping projects on track, maintaining budget alignment, driving accountability, and ensuring a high level of execution quality. We are looking for someone with a strong bias for action, curiosity, and excitement for automation and innovation at scale. This role is for someone who enjoys solving problems, building relationships, and working hands-on in an evolving operational environment where teamwork and ownership matter. This is not a remote role. The position is embedded on-site at the assigned facility, and during the launch phase, your office may be located in a job trailer while the site is under development. If you like the idea of wearing a hard hat, safety shoes, and a safety vest to work while helping launch next-generation automated facilities, this is the role for you.
What You’ll Do Own site implementation and launch execution Serve as the on-site engineering lead responsible for coordinating and driving the successful implementation and launch of an automated warehouse facility. Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality Maintain alignment across timelines, budgets, milestones, and execution quality to support successful site delivery and operational readiness. Partner across multiple teams Work closely with Operations, construction partners, Global Tech, automation vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders to coordinate execution activities and resolve issues quickly. Review and understand technical documentation Read and interpret engineering drawings, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation to support implementation, issue resolution, and operational readiness activities. Learn and support automation systems Develop a strong understanding of automation systems, warehouse operations, building systems, and site workflows to support successful startup and launch execution. Drive proactive execution Operate with a strong bias for action by identifying risks, solving problems quickly, escalating issues when needed, and driving accountability across stakeholders. Ensure execution excellence Maintain a high standard of quality and attention to detail across implementation activities, startup readiness, punch-list tracking, and operational transition efforts. Communicate clearly and effectively Provide consistent project updates, coordinate across teams, and maintain alignment with stakeholders throughout all phases of implementation and launch.
What You’ll Bring
  • Experience in engineering, technical project management, automation engineering, industrial engineering, operations engineering, or related operational environments
  • Strong project planning, coordination, and execution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to own and deliver complex projects while maintaining timelines, budgets, and quality expectations
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive execution in fast-paced industrial environments
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills across operations teams, construction partners, vendors, contractors, Global Tech, and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Learning agility and the ability to quickly understand automation systems, warehouse operations, and operational workflows
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter mentality with a strong bias for action and ownership
  • Curiosity and excitement for automation, innovation, and delivering operational capabilities at scale for Walmart
  • Positive, team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively in highly collaborative environments
  • Comfortable working on-site in active industrial and warehouse environments during facility startup and launch activities
  • Willingness to work on-site at the assigned facility with approximately 10% travel
Nice to Haves
  • PMP certification preferred
  • Experience supporting automated warehouse, industrial, manufacturing, or logistics facilities
  • Exposure to automation systems, material handling equipment, or warehouse operations
  • Experience supporting large-scale facility launches or startup operations
  • Familiarity with project management tools, CAD drawings, and engineering coordination processes
  • Experience working in highly collaborative, execution-focused environments
