Position Title:

Graduate Assistant - Recreation & Wellness (Facilities & Operations)

Job Description:

The Recreation Facility Supervisor/Graduate Assistant works as part of the Recreation Facility Supervisor team to manage and monitor the Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex and supervise student employees. In addition, this employee works closely with the Director and Assistant Directors of Recreation & Wellness. The position comes with a competitive stipend and assistance toward a graduate degree. The Graduate Assistant position is a 12-month or 24-month position, depending on the graduate program of choice. Applicants should know that this position takes top priority over any additional positions/roles that may conflict with the GA position.
This employee works 20 hours per week.
This employee enforces regulations, provides information, and answers questions regarding the ARCC facility and Recreation & Wellness programming.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and manage all areas of the Knott ARCC that fall under the jurisdiction of Recreation & Wellness. These duties will include but are not limited to opening and closing the ARCC.
  • Train and supervise student employees.
  • Assist in the development of training modules and Student Staff Development workshops.
  • Continuously update the visitor/waiver log and building usage data.
  • Manage the student worker Accountability Program.
  • Process ARCC Memberships, including accepting payments and printing ID cards.
  • Process memberships for dependents of Mount Employees and print ID cards.
  • Assist with and facilitate building usage schedules for intramurals, club sports, athletics, and outside rental groups.
  • Assist in the set-up of recreational equipment.
  • Respond to emergencies by following the Recreation & Wellness guidelines.
  • Provide tours of and information on the ARCC facilities and programs.
  • Perform routine office duties such as answering the telephone and processing credit card payments.
  • Perform general cleaning tasks and laundry duties as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be accepted into a graduate program at Mount St. Mary's University.
  • The graduate assistant will work as an integral member of the Recreation Facility team by collaborating with the other supervisors and fulfilling a leadership role.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Must be willing to learn to use the Active Network software to process memberships.
  • Must be willing to learn to use the basic components of Microsoft Teams.
  • Must be willing to learn to use the check-in system via MyMount.
  • Must have a pleasant personality and handle stressful and confrontational situations appropriately.
  • Must be available to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on the academic year, semester break, and summer hours of operation.
  • Prior supervisory experience and general knowledge of recreation or exercise science are preferred.
  • Must be certified in First Aid/CPR/AED or be willing to acquire that certification.
Salary/Hours/Benefits
  • A stipend of $7,000 per academic year.
  • 20 hours per week for 12 months (July - June)
  • Tuition Remission Benefits (2 courses in the fall and 2 courses in the spring).
