Join a leading translational infectious diseases research team at the Alfred Research Alliance and contribute to innovative antimicrobial research that has the potential to directly influence clinical care, prescribing practices and global approaches to antimicrobial resistance.

As a Research Assistant within the Department of Infectious Diseases, you will work alongside clinician researchers and scientists investigating the pharmacodynamic profiling of antimicrobials and the optimisation of antimicrobial therapy for vulnerable patient populations. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to clinically meaningful research spanning in vitro PK/PD modelling, microbiology, translational therapeutics and personalised medicine.

Working within a collaborative and highly specialised research environment, you will support dynamic in vitro antimicrobial experiments, microbiological testing, laboratory operations and clinical correlation studies, while contributing to publications, presentations and broader research outputs.

This role is ideally suited to an emerging researcher seeking hands-on laboratory and translational research experience within a clinically connected academic environment at the forefront of infectious diseases and antimicrobial optimisation.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to innovative PK/PD antimicrobial research with real-world clinical application
  • Conduct advanced microbiology and in vitro pharmacodynamic experiments
  • Support translational studies focused on antimicrobial efficacy and resistance
  • Assist with laboratory management, SOP maintenance and research documentation
  • Contribute to data analysis, publications and conference outputs
  • Participate in collaborative research activities across Monash University and Alfred Health
  • Support clinical study participant enrolment and sample processing
  • Assist in the supervision and teaching of students within the research group

About You

You will bring:

  • An honours degree or higher qualification in microbiology, infectious diseases, pharmacology or a related discipline
  • Experience working within a laboratory or research environment
  • Knowledge of microbiological methods including organism identification and susceptibility testing
  • Strong analytical, organisational and scientific writing skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary clinical research team
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach to laboratory and research activities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and maintain accurate research records

Experience in antimicrobial PK/PD modelling, translational infectious diseases research or dynamic in vitro models will be highly regarded.
