The Recreation and Wellness Office at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a part-time position as a Graduate Assistant (RECW) - Outdoor Adventures. The anticipated start date is August 17, 2026.
Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. This location provides opportunities for a wide-range of outdoor recreation activities. Additionally, Morehead State University is relatively close to a number of larger cities including Lexington, KY, Louisville, KY, and Cincinnati, OH. Morehead State University delivers a strong and affordable education for friendly, ambitious students who thrive in a student-focused learning environment defined by small class sizes and faculty committed to teaching and student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The graduate assistant recruits, hires, trains, develops, and manages the rental center, bouldering wall, and trip leader staff (approximately 5-10 student staff members). Oversees all Rental Center and Bouldering wall operations. Plans and leads day, overnight, and weeklong trips in accordance with department and university policies/procedures. Assists in planning/marketing the outdoor rental center, bouldering wall, trips, and workshops/clinics. Assists with the procurement and repair of equipment. Assists with administrative and office procedures (including but not limited to scheduling of employees, payroll, budget tracking, etc.). Increases the program's level of exposure through marketing resources, promotional venues, student development, and leadership opportunities.
Leads all outdoor staff training and in-services. Provides assistance to other areas and special events of the Recreation & Wellness department as needed. All other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS: Must be admitted to a graduate degree program at Morehead State University. Must be enrolled in and maintain at least nine graduate hours per semester. Must be able to work an average of 20 hours per week. Must maintain a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA each semester. A valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements
Moderate lifting required; sitting at desk, driving vehicles is required. Mobility with outdoor recreation functions is required, including swimming, climbing, and hiking.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Successful candidate must be able to:
Sit/stand for long periods of time
Operate in inclement weather including but not limited to sun, heat, rain, cold, snow, etc.
