Job Title, Status: Marketing & Media Intern, part-time (approx. 20 hrs./week)

Pay Rate, Duration: $15/hr., 10-12 weeks


Company Overview

Woodson Lumber is a leading distributor and retailer of specialty building materials and lumber products, operating multiple branches across central Texas. We combine our scale with local agility, serving contractors, remodelers, trade customers, and retail customers through best-in-class service, product knowledge, and operations excellence.


Role Summary

We are seeking a creative and motivated Marketing Intern to support our product promotion initiatives and help strengthen our brand image across multiple channels. This internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are eager to gain hands-on experience in marketing strategy, content creation, and brand development within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Each intern will have at least a 30-minute weekly check-in with the supervisor for campaign reviews, creative critiques, and strategy discussions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and executing product promotion campaigns across email and social media platforms
  • Support the creation of marketing materials, including social media posts, email content, in - store promotions, and promotional copy
  • Help develop, maintain, and enhance brand consistency across all customer-facing communications
  • Conduct market and competitor research to identify trends, consumer insights, and positioning opportunities
  • Assist with social media management, including scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and reporting performance metrics
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (sales, purchasing, retail operations) to align messaging and promotional efforts
  • Support event marketing, product launches, and promotional initiatives as needed
  • Track and compile data on campaign performance and prepare basic reports

Program Structure:

  • Phase 1: Get in the brand + product (learn our voice, get product-trained, and understand the strategy behind what we're doing)
  • Phase 2: Jump into campaigns - with support (create content, do research, help with reporting, and plug into active campaign work)
  • Phase 3: Own a project end-to-end (lead a defined initiative and share results we can measure - clear ROI, wins, learnings)

Measurable Outcomes

  • Produce portfolio-quality digital and print assets
  • Contribute to at least one campaign from concept to execution
  • Complete a capstone-style project

Reporting & Interactions

  • This role reports to the Purchasing Manager and collaborates with marketing, the purchasing team, and retail staff

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in product marketing, branding, and consumer engagement
  • Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of marketing principles and brand storytelling
  • Strong time management and deadline observation with the ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks efficiently to meet established deadlines
  • Experience or familiarity with our products is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe) is a plus
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Creative mindset with a willingness to learn and take initiative

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Must be comfortable working in a hybrid environment (office, warehouse, yard).
  • Ability to be on your feet, walk yards/warehouse frequently.
  • Occasional travel to other branches or vendor sites.
