About Us

Are you ready to help your community prepare for a large-scale emergency and keep our County safe? We are looking for motivated individuals to rise to the occasion! Maricopa County Department of Emergency Management prepares for, responds to, and recovers from large-scale community disasters. Security Services is a division within the Emergency Management Department that provides specialized armed security services and executive protection to our County leaders and ensures the safety of County facilities and property. Some of our partners include local and state governments, industry leaders, universities, and community organizations active in disasters. A few of our unique programs include Securing the Cities (STC), a preventative radiological and nuclear detection program that partners with law enforcement agencies and fire departments to enhance their radiation detection capabilities by providing equipment, training, and plan development support. Also, we are responsible for off-site planning for the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. We Require

  • Current graduate student or undergraduate junior or senior in Emergency Management, Public Administration, Public Health, or another related program

Other Requirements

  • Completion of FEMA IS-100, IS-200, ICS-300, ICS-400 or the ability to complete within one month of the hire date

  • Able to work on-site at 1325 N Fiesta Blvd in Gilbert from July to December 2026

Job Contributions

  • Assist Emergency Management Coordinators (EMCs) in developing emergency response plans and procedures

  • Assist EMCs in developing, planning, conducting, and evaluating emergency exercises and drills

  • Assist the Department's Radiological Emergency Preparedness Program by coordinating county response efforts for incidents at the Palo Verde Generating Station

  • Attend emergency management trainings and other formal educational classes regionally

  • Assist in the implementation and management of the Securing the Cities program

  • Engage in emergency response operations at the County Emergency Operations Center during exercises and real-world activations, as needed

  • Support community all-hazards education and public outreach to spread awareness of emergency preparedness topics

Working Conditions

  • Exerting 20-25 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10 lbs. constantly

  • Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions
