Background:


Washington Leadership Academy (WLA) is a world-class college prep high school in Washington D.C. that prepares students to thrive in the world and to change it for the better. WLA employs college prep academics, computer science instruction, and real world experiences to ensure that students achieve their full potential. WLA fosters a community of wellness where students and staff members feel like family. WLA is one of 10 schools in the nation to be recognized as a “Super School” and awarded a $10 million grant to redesign high school and empower young people.


Role and Responsibilities: The Operations Associate position is a full time position.


Food Service Management: The Operations Associate will ensure that food is served in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Sample tasks include:

  • Daily Meal Management
  • Accept deliveries and verify correct orders
  • Be responsible for the condition and care for meals until they are served
  • Clean and maintain equipment (refrigerator, warming oven, etc.)
  • Wipe down all surfaces, e.g. countertops, used in the serving of food
  • Stow all equipment and food in compliance with food service regulations
  • Dispose of waste in the appropriate trash receptacles located in the kitchen/cafeteria
  • Gather feedback from students to ensure satisfaction
  • Supervise the consumption of meals
  • Manage Point of Sale (meal counting) records
  • Perform record keeping and reconcile entries
  • Coordinate with Operations Manager for weekly meal ordering
  • Maintain kitchen and cafeteria environment that is 100% satisfactory to the Department of Health


School Environment: The Operations Associate will support Operations Manager to maintain a place of work and learning that students, teachers, and staff take pride in.

  • Regularly and consistently maintain a beautiful environment for learning
  • Support emergency planning and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned


Office Tasks: The Operations Associate will provide direct operational support to school leadership.

  • Assisting Office Manager with daily calls to families
  • Filing and basic clerical responsibilities
  • Support recruitment and enrollment, including maintaining accurate records
  • Some data management projects, under supervision of Operations Manager and/or Associate Director of Operations
  • General front desk administration support
  • Many other duties as assigned


Hours : 7:45 am to 4:45pm (most days Operations Team members are cleared to leave by 4:15pm based on student dismissal)


Reporting Relationships:

  • The Operations Associate will report to the Director of Operations


Requirements and Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with the National School Lunch Program preferred
