We’re looking for a motivated and dependable Assistant Store Leader to join our Watertown team.

Position Overview

The Assistant Store Leader works closely with the Store Leader to oversee daily store operations, provide exceptional customer service, lead and develop associates, maintain inventory and merchandising standards, and help achieve store sales and profitability goals.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys working with people, solving problems, and taking an active role in the success of the store.

Candidate must have evening and weekend availability.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Customer Service
  • Provide friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable service to customers.
  • Greet customers entering and throughout the store and thank them as they leave.
  • Proactively assist customers in solving problems and finding the right products for their needs.
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of products, services, and store layout.
  • Answer customer calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.
  • Handle customer concerns and complaints professionally and work toward a satisfactory resolution while keeping the best interests of the customer and Nyberg’s ACE in mind.
  • Serve as a positive representation of Nyberg’s ACE to customers and the community.
Store Operations
  • Assist the Store Leader with the overall operation of the store.
  • Supervise general store operations in the absence of the Store Leader.
  • Open and close the store as scheduled.
  • Help maintain a positive, professional and safe work environment.
  • Assist with the implementation of company programs, policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Help ensure successful loss prevention, safety and internal audits.
  • Work closely with the Store Leader and other members of the management team on all aspects of store operations.
  • Participate in management and store meetings.
  • Communicate operational issues and opportunities to the Store Leader and appropriate support departments.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned by the Store Leader or District Manager.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized and inviting sales floor, stock room and outdoor merchandise areas.
  • Ensure weekly price changes and label updates are completed accurately and on time.
  • Oversee cashiering functions, including training, maintenance, audits and reports.
  • Help coordinate preventative maintenance and repairs to protect and maintain the store building, fixtures and equipment.
  • Stay informed about local market trends and competitor offerings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Inventory & Merchandising
  • Help ensure receiving and forklift operations are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly received, checked in and stocked according to company procedures.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate back-stock levels.
  • Help ensure cycle counts and negative-on-hand reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Assist with ordering and maintaining appropriate product inventory levels to maximize in-stock position and profitability.
  • Assist with merchandise resets and product presentations throughout the store.
  • Ensure signage is accurate and current.
  • Help maintain clean, organized and attractive end caps, promotional displays and sales floor presentations.
Hiring & Training
  • Assist with training new and existing associates.
  • Help recruit and identify strong candidates for open positions.
  • Encourage and support the development and advancement of associates.
  • Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, reviewing and recognizing associates as directed by the Store Leader.
  • Lead by example and help create a positive team culture.
Leadership
  • Assist in managing all aspects of store operations.
  • Assume leadership responsibility in the absence of the Store Leader.
  • Be approachable, dependable, and available to associates and customers.
  • Lead by example and demonstrate Nyberg’s ACE values through everyday actions.
  • Identify and communicate ideas related to merchandising, customer service, cost control and sales.
  • Help motivate the team to achieve store goals.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and prepare for future advancement opportunities within Nyberg’s ACE.

Experience
  • Previous retail leadership or management experience highly preferred.
  • Hardware, home improvement or related retail experience preferred.
  • Experience leading, training or coaching a team is a plus.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions and solve problems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift and carry merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Climb ladders and safely work at various heights.
  • Operate or learn to operate material-handling equipment such as forklifts.
  • Perform physical tasks associated with stocking, merchandising and maintaining the store.
