Job Description

What you will do for C&F:

The Underwriting Assistant supports the operational and service objectives of the S&S Transportation Specialty Auto team by assisting with the review, preparation, processing, and maintenance of underwriting and policy information for new and renewal business. This role provides underwriting and operational support through accurate transaction handling, verification of submission and policy data, and timely processing of policy-related activity in accordance with established company guidelines, authority levels, and service standards.

Pre-Quote Support

  • Validate data entry in underwriting systems (e.g., auto and general liability classification, loss schedules).
  • Verify documentation for coverage and limits.
  • Communicate with internal and external business partners to obtain required information and resolve processing-related questions

Post-Bind Transaction Management

  • Draft and verify policy documents using internal systems.
  • Approve policy drafts within designated authority; escalate as needed.
  • Book premiums and confirm accurate postings.
  • Issue approved policies and report data to third-party agencies (e.g., Workers Compensation bureaus, DMV).
  • Process endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements.

Team Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve policy questions and streamline processes.
  • Participate in system testing and special projects as assigned.
  • Support departmental training, testing, process improvement initiatives, and special projects, as assigned.

What you will bring to C&F:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 years insurance or underwriting support experience is required.
  • Working knowledge of Policy Decisions (Insurity) required with emphasis on Auto Insurance rate & rule application
  • Insurance industry experience preferred, with exposure to Commercial Auto or Specialty Auto business
  • Working knowledge of Policy Decisions (Insurity)
  • General understanding of insurance forms, endorsements, classifications, and exposure information
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and other business technology tools.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and data review skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow established procedures consistently
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
