Pinnacle Corrugated , an affiliate of Schwarz Partners and corrugated manufacturing industry leader, currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Logistics ManagerinLandis, NC. The Logistics Manager is responsible for planning, coordination, cost control, and continuous improvement of outbound transportation and logistics. This position will focus on reducing freight cost, improving trailer and load utilization, managing dedicated and outside transportation activity, developing backhaul opportunities, and ensuring transportation charges are accurate.

The Logistics Manager will work closely with the Shopping Supervisor, Scheduling, Customer Service, Sales, Production, and transportation providers to ensure products are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and at the lowest practical cost.

The Logistics Manager will work closely with the Shipping Supervisor, who remains primarily responsible for employee supervision, staffing, training, safety, and day-to-day shipping-floor execution. The Logistics Manager’s primary responsibility will be transportation planning, logistics performance, and cost optimization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
  • Manage and continuously improve freight cost per MSF while maintaining customer delivery requirements.
  • Analyze routes, loads, delivery schedules, and customer shipping patterns to improve trailer utilization and MSF per load.
  • Review dedicated fleet driver hours and mileage to ensure charges are reasonable, necessary, and consistent with scheduled transportation activity.
  • Investigate excessive driver hours, early report times, unnecessary mileage, unauthorized trailer drops, recovery costs, and other avoidable transportation expenses.
  • Monitor dedicated fleet performance and work with the carrier to correct recurring cost, service, driver, or equipment issues.
  • Develop and manage backhaul opportunities to reduce empty return miles and offset outbound freight costs.
  • Minimize the use of outside carriers through improved planning and utilization of dedicated equipment.
  • When outside carriers are necessary, obtain competitive pricing and coordinate transportation requirements.
  • Track and analyze outside freight usage and identify the reasons additional transportation was required.
  • Participate in future freight contract negotiations, provide operational knowledge, cost analysis, utilization data, service performance information, and recommendations to support favorable contract terms and transportation strategies.
  • Work closely with the CPG Director of Financial Planning & Analysis on freight initiatives, cost-reduction opportunities, financial analysis, and other transportation-related improvement projects.
  • Work with Scheduling, Production, Customer Service, and Shipping to improve load readiness, consolidation, routing, and delivery efficiency.
  • Monitor trailer availability, trailer turns, yard activity, and equipment utilization.
  • Investigate late deliveries, missed shipments, freight claims, and other transportation-related service issues.
  • Develop and maintain logistics performance reporting and identify opportunities for continuous cost and service improvement.
  • Follow all safety and company policies, reporting any issues, accidents or incidents immediately; must complete monthly safety training as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED; plus five years related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, fleet management, distribution, or supply chain operations preferred.
