Description

Located at our Calgary downtown office, the Analyst, Commercial Operations is a key member of the Commercial Operations team, responsible for managing volumetric accounting, analysis, and reporting across Inter Pipeline's Conventional and Oil Sands pipeline systems. This role delivers accurate, compliant, and timely reporting that directly supports financial accuracy, operational decision-making, and system integrity.

The Analyst performs in-depth analysis and reconciles complex datasets to ensure the accuracy of over/short positions, tank inventories, line fill, working stock, crude qualities, and volume entry into OVAL, while maintaining audit-ready documentation. Operating in a deadline-driven environment, the role requires a high degree of independence, attention to detail, and analytical rigour to identify discrepancies, resolve issues, and continuously improve reporting processes.


Working closely with pipeline schedulers and cross-functional teams, the Analyst supports pipeline balancing, equalization, and customer requests, while proactively anticipating reporting needs and delivering transparent, value-driven solutions to internal and external stakeholders.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

ย  ย Perform volumetric accounting, analysis, and month-end reporting, including over/short positions, inventories, line fill, and crude qualities
ย  ย Validate and reconcile crude oil accounting data from multiple sources (e.g., gauge reports, truck tickets, pipeline tickets) to ensure accuracy and completeness
ย  ย Enter and maintain ticketing data in OVAL and related systems, ensuring audit-ready documentation
ย  ย Prepare equalization statements, production splits, and customer reports in line with industry timelines
ย  ย Compile and submit required regulatory reporting, including Petrinex and Production Activity Reports
ย  ย Monitor pipeline quality specifications and coordinate with Measurement and field teams to ensure compliance with industry standards
ย  ย Support pipeline schedulers with balancing activities, equalization, and system setup (e.g., new batteries)
ย  ย Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to shipper balances, invoicing, and quality issues
ย  ย Collaborate with Accounting, Commercial Operations, Commercial Services, and Marketing teams to ensure accurate invoicing and reporting
ย  ย Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, producers, and external customers, providing timely resolution to inquiries
ย  ย Support audit requirements (EPAP, E&Y, SOX) through accurate recordkeeping and documentation
ย  ย Maintain and update procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Education, Skills and Experience

ย  ย Post-secondary degree or diploma (Business or related discipline preferred)
ย  ย 2+ years of relevant experience in pipeline operations, volumetric accounting, or energy industry reporting
ย  ย Strong experience with data analysis and reconciliation in a deadline-driven environment
ย  ย Working knowledge of industry practices (e.g., COLC calendar, Equalization Procedures)
ย  ย Experience with Petrinex reporting is preferred
ย  ย Proficiency in data systems and tools used for volumetric tracking and reporting (e.g., OVAL or similar systems)
