PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
The assistant principal under the direction of the building principal serves as an instructional leader for the staff, students, and community. These responsibilities include establishing a climate conducive to learning, clarifying roles and expectations, long-range planning, and coordinating community involvement in the total school program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Work cooperatively with the staff and community in designing and implementing a curriculum to address the needs of students in accordance with state and district standards.
  2. Work collaboratively with school and district personnel to establish and implement inclusive practices in school programs.
  3. Conduct classroom observations and DPAS performance appraisals.
  4. Establish conditions that will promote effective utilization of available resources.
  5. Assist with the planning, supervising, and directing of the business operation of the school in accordance with district policies and procedures, including the development and administration of the school budget.
  6. Develop and sustain, in conjunction with the administrative office, a program of public relations to establish and maintain favorable relationships with the community, local groups, and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs.
  7. Develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of pupils as established in district procedures.
  8. Perform other duties and tasks assigned by immediate supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must be eligible to hold State of Delaware Principal/Assistant Principal Certificate
  2. Minimum 3 years teaching experience
  3. Demonstrated successful leadership experience within an organization
  4. Understanding of special education laws and regulations
  5. Strong knowledge and experience with and of the IEP process
  6. Experience with positive behavior supports and Behavior Support Plans
