Job description

Accounting Manager

Our client is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to take a key leadership role within its corporate accounting team. This individual will oversee core accounting operations, help develop the accounting team, and partner closely with finance leadership to ensure accurate reporting, strong controls, and scalable processes.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing day-to-day accounting responsibilities with higher-level projects and process improvement. The organization is established and growing, creating an opportunity to help strengthen systems, reporting, and accounting practices as the business continues to evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of accounting professionals, providing coaching, direction, and ongoing support.
  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities, including the general ledger, receivables, payables, fixed assets, lease accounting, and related reporting.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring financial information is complete, accurate, and delivered on schedule.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and management reporting.
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting policies and standards.
  • Coordinate annual audits and serve as a primary contact for external auditors and other financial advisors.
  • Partner with outside tax professionals to support federal, state, and local tax filings and other compliance requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate controls around billing, collections, payments, cash management, and other financial transactions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, reporting, and overall department efficiency.
  • Assist with accounting system enhancements, automation initiatives, and broader finance transformation projects.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Support acquisition-related accounting, due diligence, integrations, and other transaction activity as needed.
  • Collaborate with finance leadership and other departments on special projects and strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with previous experience leading or supervising accounting professionals.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Strong understanding of revenue recognition principles.
  • Effective communicator who can work collaboratively with accounting, finance, operations, and senior leadership.
  • Ability to manage deadlines and priorities within a complex, multi-entity or project-driven organization.
  • Experience managing multiple areas of corporate accounting, such as general ledger, AP/AR, financial reporting, treasury, and compliance.

Preferred Experience

  • CPA or CMA
  • Experience within architecture, engineering, construction, consulting, or another project-based professional services environment.
  • Previous public accounting experience.
  • Experience working within a larger or multi-location organization.
  • Exposure to mergers, acquisitions, integrations, or other transaction-related accounting.
  • Experience improving accounting processes or participating in ERP/accounting system implementations.
  • Familiarity with project-based ERP/accounting platforms.
