A Cost Accounting & Coordinator Manager at Smith and Loveless reports directly to the CFO and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost accounting while serving as the primary financial liaison between Accounting, Production, Purchasing, Engineering, and Operations. This position ensures accurate product costing, inventory valuation, manufacturing variance analysis, and financial reporting while helping management make data-driven operational decisions. The Cost Accounting & Coordinating Manager improves processes, strengthens cost controls, and supports continuous improvement initiatives.

Job duties
  • Supervise the collection, recording, analysis, and reporting of cost data pertaining to production activities.
  • Review the costing of current jobs and completed/shipped jobs for accuracy.
  • Analyze inventory, costing, and variances for accurate financial reporting monthly.
  • Review and maintain standard costs.
  • Ensure proper costing of bids of new quotes.
  • Prepare for the year-end audit in regard to inventory and job costing.
  • Analyze product costing and make cost improvement recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain an effective information flow to all departments relative to costing of S&L products.
  • Create, direct, and implement improvements to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.
  • Maintain and update internal control procedures.
  • Hire, train, motivate, and evaluate the accounting staff including overseeing and assisting in the training of new cost accountants and bidders and cross train employees to ensure adequate coverage of essential functions.
  • Assist in the preparation of special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.

Skills/Requirements
  • BS/BA in accounting preferred. Bachelors degree in related field will be considered. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum 3 years accounting and/or manufacturing cost accounting experience required.
  • Experience with ERP systems. Epicor Kinetic experience is a plus.
  • Thorough working knowledge of general and cost accounting principles plus management experience.
  • Good computer, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Microsoft Office familiarization and advanced Excel skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with excellent numerical ability.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to lead and manage a small cost accounting team and cross-functional teams as projects require.
