Job description

Open to hiring at either the Senior Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller level, with title and scope determined based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities.

SUMMARY: The Sr. Accounting Manageris responsible for overseeing the general ledger accounting team and its financial reporting activities at Seaboard Energy. This role partners closely with the Division Controller to plan and manage departmental accounting operations, including staff supervision and development, audit coordination with internal and external teams, ERP system enhancements and implementations, and review of fuel tax reporting and compliance filings. This role offers broad exposure to Seaboard Energy's accounting, operations, commercial, tax, compliance, FP&A, and technology functions, with the opportunity to lead process improvements, develop accounting talent, and help shape scalable financial reporting practices for a growing renewable fuels business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily supervision of 3-4 direct reports, including training and development of accounting professionals
  • Manage timely and accurate period-end close processes, including reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules to ensure financial statements are complete and compliant with GAAP
  • Collaborate with Accounting and FP&A leadership on new system implementations and updating of existing processes to improve efficiency and accuracy of reporting, forecasting, budgeting, and analysis efforts including automation enhancements to RightAngle and implementation of OneStream
  • Lead liaison for internal and external auditor requests as it relates to inventory, revenue recognition, fixed assets, leases, and various controls testing
  • Partner with operations, procurement, FP&A, and compliance teams to support business initiatives and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Drive AI transformation in accounting processes in collaboration with FP&A and Director of AI
  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation, including coordination of quarterly physical inventory counts across four sites, review of monthly reconciliations, and oversight of inventory valuation and capitalization
  • Review monthly tax filings, fuel tax reporting, and periodic compliance submissions; lead implementation of new and evolving tax requirements
  • Manage fixed assets and lease accounting processes prepared by staff and senior accountants and lead efforts to work in collaboration with procurement and cross-functional teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of underlying
  • Support technical accounting research needs and new guidance implementation in accordance with GAAP including preparation of memos to improve policy and procedure documentation
  • Partner with the Controller to review weekly A/P processing and daily cash disbursements and receipts
  • Other special projects as assigned by management

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required
  • MBA or Master of Accountancy (MAcc) strongly preferred
  • Certified Public Accountant designation strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of accounting experience required with 3+ industry experience strongly preferred
  • Experience working for a publicly traded company preferred
  • Experience reporting financials in accordance with U.S. GAAP required
  • Prior supervisory or teamlead experience preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills
  • Experience with JDE (JD Edwards) and/or OneStream preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, tasks, and projects effectively
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational and timemanagement skills
  • Proven ability to review staff work accurately and in a timely manner

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position is primarily office-based and requires the ability to perform work while seated for extended periods. The role involves frequent use of a computer, including prolonged viewing of a monitor and continuous typing on a keyboard. Occasional walking within the office and light handling of documents or office supplies (under 15 lbs) may be required. The employee must have adequate visual acuity for reading and data entry and the ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person interactions. Employees must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) for their work areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work environment is in an office setting. Noise level varies from low to moderate levels.

NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday. The working hours and days of work are established by departmental needs and at the discretion of management. Occasional changes in schedule may be required as special circumstances arise.
