BAE is seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Quality Engineer to support metrology, inspection, and measurement system activities to support our Anniston, AL facility. In this role as a Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring product conformity through effective measurement practices, equipment control, data analysis, and continuous improvement of inspection processes. You'll use your expertise in dimensional inspections, GD&T, MSA, and root cause analysis. You'll support cross-functionally with Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Program teams to drive compliance and process capability.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and support metrology and measurement system activities across manufacturing operations.
  • Develop, review, and improve inspection methods, measurement plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Support dimensional inspections using precision measurement equipment including:
    • Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Height gauges
    • Optical comparators
    • Faro Arm (preferred)
    • Laser tracking or portable metrology systems (preferred)
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Conduct Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including:
    • Gage R&R studies
    • Bias
    • Linearity
    • Stability analysis
  • Analyze inspection and process data using SPC methods to identify trends, variation, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to dimensional or measurement issues.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams to improve inspection efficiency and error-proofing methods.
  • Review and approve First Article Inspection (FAI) packages and dimensional reports as required.
  • Support internal audits, customer audits, and regulatory/compliance activities.
  • Assist with supplier quality investigations and measurement-related concerns.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and calibration records within electronic systems and databases.

Required Skills and Education
  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Engineering or a technical discipline and four years of experience in Quality Engineering or Metrology within a manufacturing environment, or the overall equivalent
  • Strong understanding of Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Experience with inspection equipment (CMM, Faro-arm, laser trackers, micrometers, calipers, etc.)
  • Experience supporting root cause analysis and corrective action processes
