Operations Manager JOB LEVEL: Management


EFFECTIVE DATE: 5/25/2022 DEPARTMENT: Office


SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS:

The Plant Operations Manager is directly responsible for all plant assets, employees, and productivity at the lumber mill. He leads the safety, quality, and production in all areas


(sawmill, planer mill and yard) and executes any company plan of action with his team of supervisors. The Plant Operations Manager leads his organization in the manufacturing of quality lumber products in a safe environment maintaining productivity, minimizing costs, and developing a trained employee base. The Plant Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for managing and motivating all supervisors and indirectly all mill personnel.

  • Responsible for ensuring safety of all employees by supporting safety education efforts and enforcement of safety rules.

  • Responsible for monitoring quality of lumber out of sawmill, planer mill and yard on a daily basis for quick response to flaws.

  • Responsible for consistently meeting production goals for the sawmill and planer mill.

  • Responsible for all expenses as related to sawmill, planer mill and yard.

  • Responsible for conducting meetings for mill, departments and with individual employees as needed.

  • Responsible for monitoring all areas for bottlenecks and resolve when found.


Additional Duties

  • Attend and conduct meetings.

  • Work with Human Resources on placement and job training of all mill personnel.

  • All other duties as assigned from time to time by the General Manager.


Qualifications / Requirements

  • Computer literate (working knowledge of MS Excel and/or Lotus).

  • Previous management experience, must be a trainer and motivator.

  • Knowledge of maintenance of sawmill and planer mill machinery.

  • Knowledge of lumber quality out of sawmill, dry kiln and planer mill.
