Job description

Summary and relationship to the curriculum: All classified positions will strengthen the delivery of instruction to support the district mission statement. This position supports the curriculum by ensuring the integrity, security, availability, and performance of the district’s network, servers, virtualization, and infrastructure systems to support both instructional and administrative technology operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs, implements, maintains, and optimizes all facets of the LAN and WAN infrastructure.
  • Assists in the planning for new networks for overhauls and new construction.
  • Isolates, defines and corrects network and software problems.
  • Administers and manages network management system.
  • Oversees all monitoring applications to stay abreast of equipment or system problems.
  • Performs network health and capacity monitoring.
  • Confirms scheduled backups are running for all district operations and assists with validation, documentation, and readiness activities to ensures readiness for disaster recovery of important data.
  • Designs and maintains network security and architecture, redundancy and resilience mechanisms.
  • Maintains network security – including defining and providing for access rights.
  • Provides technical assistance as directed.
  • Manages and maintains the firewalls, including rule review, change documentation, and security-related configurations.
  • Assists in maintaining proper operation of content filters and related security controls.
  • Administers, secures, and optimizes enterprise virtual environments.
  • Operates enterprise level SAN and NAS management.
  • Fully understands the operation of networks of moderate complexity utilizing VLANs, Static and Dynamic Link Aggregation, OSPF routing protocols, multicast, stacking/virtual bonding and virtual chassis configurations.
  • Troubleshoots issues in a timely manner and reports findings including identification of potential security risks or anomalies.
  • Manages and monitor installed systems and infrastructure for performance, availability, and security related events.
  • Oversees the installation, configuration, tests and maintenance of operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Ensures the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability while supporting cybersecurity resilience and continuity objectives.
  • Monitors and tests application performance for potential blocks, and work with developers to identify possible solutions and implement fixes.
  • Writes and maintains custom scripts to increase system efficiency infrastructure.
  • Serves as liaison with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Assists with the creation of strategic plans and goals for future growth of technology.
  • Participates in training programs to increase skills and proficiency.
  • Implements and maintains infrastructure-related cybersecurity controls in collaboration with district cybersecurity leadership.
  • Participates in incident response and recovery activities related to network or infrastructure events, including assisting with investigation, containment, recovery, and post-incident documentation.
  • Collaborates with Technology Services leadership and cybersecurity personnel to identify infrastructure-related risks and recommend mitigation strategies consistent with district standards and best practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Education and/or Experience: A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience providing advanced hardware and software technical support and administration in an enterprise network environment is preferred.
  • Certificate or License Preferred: CompTIA Network+, Security+, Cisco CCNA or CCNP, Aruba ACSP/ACMP, Nutanix NCP, Palo Alto PCNSE, Microsoft AZ-104, or equivalent enterprise networking, security, or virtualization certifications.
  • Technical Ability: The candidate must possess proven work experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and managing firewalls; configuring, installing, and troubleshooting core, edge, and wireless network devices. Deep understanding of communication and routing protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, 802.11, QoS, BGP). Solid understanding of the OSI or TCP/IP model. Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytic tools. Knowledge of scripting languages to automate system administration and improve operational efficiency.
    Strong understanding of configuring and managing virtual environments such as VMware, Nutanix, Proxmox, and Hyper-V.
    Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles as they relate to network infrastructure, including secure configuration, access control, segmentation, monitoring, vulnerability mitigation, and incident response support.
  • Language Skills: Must have ability to read and comprehend job specific technical information, simple instructions, short correspondence, memos and position specific manuals. Must have ability to write correspondence and reports. Must have ability to effectively articulate and present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Must have ability to conduct position related data analysis. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to facilitate the problem solving processes. Must have ability to synthesize workable options from given facts, and assist in the development of workable solutions.
