Job description

Purpose

Build the Foundation That Keeps the Business Running

Every company talks about uptime. This team actually lives it. As an Associate Systems Engineer, you’ll be part of the group responsible for keeping core enterprise systems stable, secure, and running smoothly behind the scenes — from virtualization and backups to Windows environments and critical infrastructure support.

This role is ideal for someone early in their IT career who wants more than repetitive ticket work. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to enterprise systems, learn from experienced engineers, and build the technical depth and operational instincts that turn strong support professionals into well-rounded infrastructure engineers.

Your Day Consists Of
  • Supporting and maintaining enterprise infrastructure environments including virtualization platforms, Windows systems, and core operational services
  • Troubleshooting system, server, and infrastructure issues while partnering with senior engineers to resolve higher-impact problems
  • Monitoring backups, system performance, and environment health to help prevent issues before they impact the business
  • Managing incidents, requests, and changes through ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms with clear communication and follow-through
  • Assisting with DNS troubleshooting, configuration updates, and connectivity investigations across enterprise environments
  • Documenting processes, fixes, and recurring issues in a way that makes the next problem easier — not harder — to solve
You’ll Be Successful With
  • Foundational knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix
  • Working experience or hands-on exposure to Windows server and workstation administration
  • A problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn from real-world infrastructure challenges
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical teams
  • Comfort working within structured support processes, escalation paths, and operational procedures
  • Internship, lab, help desk, systems support, or early-career infrastructure experience that shows curiosity and initiative

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and maintain virtualized environments (e.g., Nutanix).
  • Administer and troubleshoot Windows operating systems in a server and workstation environment.
  • Monitor, manage, and verify backup systems to ensure data integrity and successful recovery.
  • Utilize ServiceNow (or similar ITSM tools) to manage incidents, requests, and changes.
  • Assist with DNS configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform system health checks and proactively identify potential issues.
  • Document processes, procedures, and resolutions clearly and accurately.

Communication & Escalation

  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Provide timely updates on incidents, service requests, and ongoing work.
  • Follow established escalation procedures to ensure critical issues are addressed appropriately.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to resolve complex problems.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix).
  • Working knowledge of Windows OS administration.
  • Familiarity with backup and recovery concepts and tools.
  • Experience or exposure to ServiceNow or other ticketing systems.
  • Understanding of DNS concepts and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow structured processes, including escalation workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, VMware) are a plus.
  • Internship or hands-on lab experience in systems administration.

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

  • Limited travel required including air and car travel
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a warehouse environment and moving vehicles.  The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate.

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Note:  All duties and responsibilities listed are considered to be essential job functions and requirements, and are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.  Marginal functions of the position (those that are incidental to the performance of fundamental job duties) have not been included.   However, the omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or logical assignment to the position.

This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and the employee, and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the business and requirement of the job change.
